Arktis Waterproof Smock Jacket- Olive Green
The Arktis Waterproof Smock has always been a favourite of mine and I have had one for years. It ticks all the boxes for an all round great jacket - it's waterproof, breathable, features a full length zip, has loads of very useful pockets and has a tough and hard wearing protective rip stop outer.
Now, just because it was originally designed for use by the military and emergency services, is a massive asset not a detriment and in the neutral colours we plan to offer it will suit whether you are just going out for the day or for the week. Essentially it is two jackets in one as you don't need a jacket and a waterproof.
It is a fully waterproof and breathable jacket used by Special Forces & tough military units around the world which makes it perfect for the likes of you and me!
Arktis originally designed this Smock for the SAS in the late 80's but the design and materials have evolved to modernise it over the decades. There have been a few tweaks over the years, however the fundamentals for a simple and reliable jacket have remained the same. It is one of the greatest garments of the entire industry, many thousands of which have been sold across the world and have been often imitated but never bettered.
The fundamentals of the Arktis principle are rooted in achieving efficiency and durability by a simple and practical approach. Special heavy-duty nylon thread, combined with quality cotton, powerful bartacks, easy adjusters and generous sizing are all standard features.
The waterproof/breathable characteristic is achieved by a light-but-strong seam sealed inner dropliner. By having the critical performance fabric shielded by the outer shell, any nicks or tears that might occur during wear and tear mean that the garment will probably remain waterproof/breathable despite damage to the outer shell.
That outer fabric is a 50% cotton 50% polyester tight weave Ripstop with a DWR finish, proven over many years to be effective, enduring and dependable beyond expectation. The weave is far quieter than most nylon outers and the 50/50 blend presents a low burn and melt hazard.
Of course, like any waterproof, you will need to wash and rejuvenate the waterproof material occasionally but this is easy using Nikwax Tech Wash followed by Nikwax TX Direct Wash In. After I wash and treat I tend to put it in a tumble drier as the heat helps as well but hanging in an airing cupboard can be a good move.
