Bison Oberharzer Axe

I really like this one......it's on my wish list! 

Bison were such a natural fit for The Bushcraft Store I do wonder why we were not stocking them years ago. They are all hand forged in Germany by master craftsman and are simply superb quality and phenomenal value. Genuinely, what's not to like?

BISON 1879 originates from the family tradition of master-smith Moritz Trept, a tradition that later became BISON, the company. Today BISON is synonymous with high-quality tools and craftsmanship, and when using them this heritage becomes abundantly clear. 

The Oberharzer Axe is what originally attracted me to Bison axes. This is probably the best all rounder you can get as it seems to able to just about doing everything around camp and in the woods. Bison are the only company forging this very traditional style of axe and it is a perfectly balanced shape and feel.

It features an 800g high grade carbon tool steel head is hand forged and has a sharp polished edge that glides through your camp tasks with ease. 

The oiled Hickory handle is 600mm long so a really good length for getting a proper swing and is closest in dimensions to our own Sherwood Forest Axe. Hickory is the ideal material for axes as part of it's natural abilities is that it absorbs shock extremely well. Other woods will do this but hickory is definitely the best. It is attached the the head first, with a wedge and then a conical metal wedge.

To keep your axe and it safe it comes with a excellent quality leather mask that is riveted together so it is super strong.
