BISON 1879 originates from the family tradition of master-smith Moritz Trept, a tradition that later became BISON, the company. Today BISON is synonymous with high-quality tools and craftsmanship, and when using them this heritage becomes abundantly clear. 

The Universal Axe is exactly what it says on the tin. If you need an axe to complete all your "Axey" type tasks then this is the one for you. It features a 1250g Carbon Tool Steel head with a super strong metal overstrike guard as we all miss once in a while! This guard helps protect the most vulnerable part of the axe that is most prone to breakage if damaged.

The oiled Hickory handle is 700mm long so a really good length for getting a proper swing with a metal protector. Hickory is the ideal material for axes as part of it's natural abilities is that it absorbs shock extremely well. Other woods will do this but hickory is definitely the best. It is attached the the head first, with a wedge and then a conical metal wedge.

To keep your axe and it safe it comes with a excellent quality leather mask that is riveted together so it is super strong.
