BISON 1879 originates from the family tradition of master-smith Moritz Trept, a tradition that later became BISON, the company. Today BISON is synonymous with high-quality tools and craftsmanship, and when using them this heritage becomes abundantly clear. 

The Universal Hatchet is available in a couple of sizes the 600g head and the 800g head. This is the larger version and features a 800g head with a 380mm handle and is the ideal pack axe for all your outdoor adventures. With a little more weight and a little more length it will give more cutting power without compromising pack ability. The head is hand forged and has a sharp polished edge that glides through your camp tasks with ease.

The handle is 380mm and is made from hard wearing hickory that is simply sanded and oiled. Hickory is the ideal material for axes as part of it's natural abilities is that it absorbs shock extremely well. Other woods will do this but hickory is definitely the best. It is attached the the head first, with a wedge and then a conical metal wedge.

To keep your axe and it safe it comes with a excellent quality leather mask that is riveted together so it is super strong.
