Family Weekend Bushcraft Course
Why not bring your young adventurers into the woods for the weekend and give them the chance to learn new skills, develop confidence and learn about the natural world around them. You can share in the challenge of mastering fire, make your own shelter and then relax in front of your fire together when the day is done.
The content of this course is similar to our Bushcraft & Survival Weekend course but tailored to a younger audience to develop an enthusiasm and understanding of our woodland and its wildlife.
Taught from an expedition-style base camp in beautiful ancient woodland, the camp fire is under cover and acts as a communal and teaching area with a hot kettle constantly on the fire, and coffee, tea, biscuits and squash available at all times of day. Please note this is a self-catering course so you will need a small stove, and will be welcome to cook on your fire once we have covered fire lighting and leaving no trace on the Saturday. Arrival is 1900 Friday evening giving you time to settle in, set up camp and meet your fellow students. There will also be a briefing from your instructor/s. If arriving Friday night presents a problem, arrival on Saturday morning can be accommodated by prior request, but the course start time cannot be delayed for late arrivals.
On Saturday and Sunday your instruction will start at 9am learning and practising a range of skills all day Saturday, and until 1500 on Sunday.
There are relaxed and friendly lessons and demonstrations, mixed with regular opportunities for hands-on practice, under the helpful eye of our expert Instructor. You will learn how to build a shelter from natural materials, and how to light fire by a range of methods and work together to build your own camp with shelter and fire to provide your comfort. You will also learn about the best fire woods and the toxic species you shouldn’t burn, plants trees and wildlife and much more. There will also be bushcraft games, campfire cooking and various other activities, depending on the season and conditions.
