Fjallraven Kajka Rucksacks have always been built to be bombproof but they were always pretty big. The 35 litre version is an ideal addition to the range giving you the opportunity to have a daysack with the build strength of a full sixed expedition pack.
The Kajka 35 is an advanced trekking daypack that has been praised by hikers all over the world. One reason is its wooden frame construction made from FSC-certified birch, which together with the easily adjusted back length, makes Kajka a backpack designed to carry heavy loads so you can focus on hiking rather than back pain. The ergonomic shoulder straps and supportive hip belt with a pocket add even more functionality and comfort.
It is made from durable Vinylon F fabric with reinforcement fabric in recycled nylon and you easily add more storage to the Kajka 35 by attaching Kajka Side Pockets to the loops on the sides. There are also loops on the front for attaching hiking poles/ice axes. The main compartment has an internal mesh pocket and a full front zipper opening for easy organising and a great overview of contents. The top lid has three zippered pockets and can be detached and used as a crossbody bag. Two compression straps on each side provide even and effective compression while leaving the side pockets accessible. Hydration system compatible. Rain cover included.

A cracking day pack
Not my first fjallraven backpack (had a stubbed for years). But this is a whole new level of comfort. It's a lovely size for a good winter day out, with plenty of space for extra clothes, waterproofs, stove etc.
The back system is very comfortable and is easy to adjust. It does squeak a little as you walk, but I'm sure that will disappear once it's been used a few times.
I do love the front opening zip, although it would be nice if it was a proper waterproof zip, as I use it for putting my camera and mid sized zoom lens in.
Hopefully it will wear as well as most of my other FR gear.
Dream rucksack
I’d always wondered why Fjallraven rucksacks were so expensive until I tried one in the flesh in Sweden.
Just like everything they make, it oozes quality. Also, just like everything they make, you know it will last decades. I own a lot of Fjallraven stuff and the fact that they will repair anything (though not necessarily for free, if outwith guarantee ) if it’s repairable, is another reason I love the ethos behind the company. As soon as I got back to Scotland I ordered one.
Heavy, for a rucksack, but if you’re carrying knives, an axe, spotting scope, maybe camera equipment, in addition to all your other normal outdoors gear, the support the frame gives means you really don’t notice the weight.
Well thought out touches like the bottle pockets you can actually reach without taking the rucksack off, and a hipbelt pocket you can actually open with one hand, show the thought that’s gone into its design. You can also remove the lid to use as a sling-bag, if you wanted, for example, to leave the main bag in camp and still have essentials on you if you didn’t want to carry everything in pockets and on your belt.
The fact that you can add more modular storage with the Kajka pouches (which I immediately purchased) makes this my new go-to bushcraft rucksack.
I’d probably not take this for a day in the hills if all I was carrying was a clothing layer, waterproofs and lunch, but for bushcraft or a bivvy/tarp overnighter it is absolutely perfect and for me, at a comparative price point, makes more sense than a Frost River or Sabre (though the Sabre is cheaper).
Yes, it’s expensive, but actually worth the money. Really worthwhile saving up for - you won’t regret it.
