Fjallraven Lappland Hybrid Trousers - The KEB Heavy Duty - Dark Olive - Regular
I absolutely love these trousers! The Lappland Hybrids take all the best things from different trousers and add them in one package. They have taken the already great KEB trousers and added G1000 Heavy Duty to the Knees and Ankle area and come up with one product which, I believe, make simply one of the best trousers on the market today. Once you get them you will not be disappointed and they are well worth the money.
The Lappland Hybrid Trousers are lightweight, hard wearing trousers with an optimised fit for active hunting, hiking, Bushcraft or simply the great outdoors. The design is based on the award-winning Keb Trousers and they are made from stretch fabric for an excellent freedom of movement with a silent, weather resistant G-1000 Silent Eco on the rear, front of the thighs, over the knees and inside lower legs. They are an obvious first choice for physically intensive hunting or hiking.
They have ventilation openings with zippers from the knee to the hip release excess heat, and there are also zippers on the outside of the calves. There are two spacious leg pockets, both with flaps and press buttons – the left hand one also has a zipper while the right hand one has an inside mesh pocket for a mobile phone or radio. In addition there are two hand pockets and a knife pocket.
The seams at the inside of the thighs have been placed to minimise the risk of chafing and the double layer of fabric over the calves can withstand wear and tear from boots. Strap adjustments with buttons secure the leg endings around boots and there is a boothook that can be fastened to laces. Reinforced brace zones allow braces to sit well should you decide to use them.
These trousers have a fixed leg length but can be tailored to suit your needs, just select that service when purchasing, they are marked long by Fjallraven but they are is 32.5" so we can only do shorter than this.
As described, they're heavy duty versions of the Keb, shame the fit is a little different though
I own a pair of the Keb trousers (bought last year from TBS as well) and have absolutely loved them. They're probably the most comfortable outdoor trousers I have ever owned due to the stretch fabric and yet have been pretty tough (bar one tear from a fence post which Fjällräven sent me a patch for - separate story anyway) so I had high expectations for these Lappland Hybrid trousers.
They're exactly as described in terms of features, heavy duty versions of the Keb. Same pocket layout (with an extra knife loop), stretch and comfort, and with heavier duty G1000 on the reinforced sections. The colour way is nice as well - it's nice to have something more monotone without the contrasting colours of the keb. I use these for wildlife photography and a little bushcraft and they're perfect for both. The silent poppers/buttons are a brilliant touch as well for the photography - I'm very impressed with those, details like this are perfect for keeping the noise levels down when photographing animals that rely on sound as a first line of defence!
The only downside I have is the fit and it's what cost these trousers a fifth star for me. They're a little baggier around the lower leg than the Keb's more tapered fit, and they're a little longer - as a result I don't find them quite as comfortable as there's a lot of extra fabric lower down the leg. I may have to have them tailored if I can find someone to do it.
If you are ok with that fit though and you're after a tougher trouser but love the Keb features and stylings, I think they're a solid purchase and definitely a five star product.
