Baking horizontaly may cause a little warpapgae. Small amounts of oval can be straightened by hand, more severe cases require mechanical force.
These four tips will help you avoid problems: #1- Don't be in a hurry, a small amount of flame is plenty. If using a Trangia keep the simmer ring on. Even if it's fully open it will lower the temp to a reasonable level. #2 Use rocks or equivalent thermal mass inside the oven, they will help regulate the temp. #3- Use a thermometer so you know when to lay off the heat.

It works!
Brilliant Billy can oven kit. It works! However I have a couple of tips to get your best baking results. I made cheese scones and it’s best to preheat the billy can first. I also added baking ceramic beans and put them in the bottom of the Billy can (the base when horizontal), added the trivet and wide pan and then closed up the Billy and preheated it over my Bushbox LF. After 5-10 minutes I then opened it up and popped the cheese scones dough into the pan and closed up the Billy again. Baking took about half an hour and the smell of the scones baking was so good! And the scones were so tasty especially for a first attempt! My advice though is less is more, don’t overload the baking pan. 2, max 3 scones is enough otherwise they will just take ages to bake and won’t rise properly. Otherwise I am very impressed and can’t wait to do more campfire oven cooking!
