The traditional collection from Helko is simply brilliant & represents Helko's elite series of axes. From years of experience Helko have made a fantastic range at brilliant value and I am amazed they can make such a quality product for the price. The handles on this range of axes are all Swiss made and are brilliantly comfortable and help Helko's axes to represent a perfect companion when in the forest.
They chop extremely well and hold an edge for a prolonged period of time due to Helko's forging and hardening process. They are easily comparable to other Scandinavian brands on the market today and surpass them in some areas.
The Black Forest Bushcraft Axe is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry while trekking through the wilderness. Helko axes are made in Wuppertal, Germany, near the country's famous Rhein River Valley. The Rhein is one of Germany's most prominent geographical features, and has been a historically significant source of trade and growth for civilizations in the region for centuries. Cutting axes like these were a daily necessity for people carving out towns and villages in heavily forested areas along the river. This is the equivalent size of a Small Forest Axe in other ranges.

So, had a few hours testing this and i think it's time for a review. First of all, the positive aspects: + good head weight and form + excellent handle wood quality, although not perfect grain orientation + sheath is superb quality leather + ease of sharpening the cons: - sharpness, the blade was really dull and needed complete reprofiling - handle is too thick Overall, i would recommed this axe. But persons with small hands, beware. I have glove size 10 and still dislike the handle thickness. This is something the newer hand forged axes have in common, too thick handles to prevent breakage from inexperienced users. The customer service of The Bushcraft Store was as amazing as always, excellent, fast and personal contact ,unmatched by any other online store, it doesn't get any better than here, i think.
