Helko Traditional Collection - Black Forest Midweight Woodworker

The traditional collection from Helko is simply brilliant & represents Helko's elite series of axes. From years of experience Helko have made a fantastic range at brilliant value and I am amazed they can make such a quality product for the price. The handles on this range of axes are all Swiss made and are brilliantly comfortable and help Helko's axes to represent a perfect companion when in the forest.
They chop extremely well and hold an edge for a prolonged period of time due to Helko's forging and hardening process. They are easily comparable to the well know brands on the market today and surpass them in some ares.

The Black Forest Woodworker was originally designed for the renowned Black Forest of Germany. It is the quintessential tool for the experienced woodsman. This new axe is a midweight version of our now iconic 1000g Woodworker. With a slightly heavier head weight and longer 70cm handle, this axe gives a bit more when you need it, while still retaining its useful compact size, allowing it to be used as both a midweight work axe and a dependable packing tool. The widened blade allows this axe to perform exceptionally well as a cutting tool, while still being able to handle moderate splitting work.

This axe comes with a choice of Helko's standard or premium top grain American cowhide 6-7oz leather adjustable sheath.

When I first saw it I must admit it looked a bit unwieldy but after a few swings to fell a tree, and a couple of careful cuts to feather a stick, it soon became clear that it was an axe I could see myself using for a while.

Firstly the tip is very wide and has been drawn out very well, which I find gives you very good flexibility while using it in the woods.

The grain of the handle has obviously been hand selected as I can't find anything wrong with it (Not that I'm an expert on the matter), and the join where the axe head is fitted to the handle is amazing (no gaps between the wood and metal) considering this is a problem I've had a lot buying axe's.

And finally, the 1250g head really gives you that power when it's needed while still being able to perform light tasks, there is more but this review is getting too long already.
