Highlander Halo Smock - Black
The Halo Smock from Highlander is one of those products that really takes you by surprise as, for this price, you think it's going t be just like all the others or worse. It's so not true as I believe it genuinely one of the best products on the market in this style of garment there is. I have owned many of this type of product over the years from all the big names and I am seriously impressed with the Halo. I honestly think you could charge double for it if it had a big name attached to it.

Really versatile, great value jacket!
A very useful and versatile bit of gear.
Fleece lined with a wind proof and water resistant shell.
It's very light for it's warmth and packs down small.
The fleece lined front kangaroo pocket is a welcome cosy place to put cold hands.
It has a large front pocket for bits of gear you need to keep handy.
The pit zips mean you can vent if you need to, and it has further side zips lower down to vent further.
Being able to control heat without taking off the garment is very handy indeed.
I also like the fact the hood rolls up into the collar and is kept out of the way with velcro when you don't need it.
I've found it a very good layering piece with a wool baselayer underneath.
It isn't bulky so you can put a hard shell or other outer layer over the top if it's throwing it down.
I see this getting a lot of use!
The sizing is fairly normal, so Large is pretty much a standard UK Large.
The Bushcraft store were very helpful with enquires about sizing.
Fantastic build quality
A very packable essential mid layer. The outer material is ripstop and coupled with stormzips it highly windproof. The micro fleece lining provides a good level of warmth, especially when on the move and the integrated packaway hood is a good size.
On a minus the hood when packed feels slightly bulky at the neck. The lining tho warm when moving around, isn't the warmest when staying still.
Overall if compared to a buffalo shirt, this has a better outer layer but the buffalo is warmer, at the price point this wins hands down.
Light weight and warm as an active layer
Sizing could be more generous pick a size larger than usual.
Plenty of ventilation options
