Leather Mosquito Repellent Wrist Bands - 10 pack
These Mosquito wristbands are simply a good idea if, like me, you can't stand using Deet.
I have been using these for a couple of years now and have always wondered why we don't stock them, well, now we do. They are a plaited leather bracelet that is impregnated with Citronella Oil, Geraniol (which is naturally occurs in Geraniums), Cinnamon Oil, Lemongrass Oil and Peppermint Oil which all have naturally insect repellent qualities.
I find that they work very well for me as they are very much like using Citronella candles and essentially form a cloud around you. I like the fact they are natural and don't contain any harsh chemicals like Deet so they don't cause me any irritation.
Do they give you 100% coverage from all insect bites? Well, no I am not going to claim that but I can see a marked difference when I am wearing one. I will say that if I am in a very insect heavy environment I combine them with Smidge which gives excellent coverage and a more total solution.
We have opted for more muted colours in our packs so will contain a combination of 10 in greens, browns, tans, yellows, blacks and the like, nothing too lairy!
I wear one or two at a time and you could wear them on a wrist or ankle depending on your preference. I also thread the two loose cords through the retaining hole and tie an overhand loop at the end to act as a stop not. That way it can be loosened and removed over the hand without having to thread it everytime.
They last longer if they stay dry so if you are showering, bathing or swimming it's best to slip them off. I have found that they will repel for around 10-14 days but obviously will fade over time the longer you wear it.
Trying to reduce the number of insect bites
My wife is an Ultra Trail Runner, this year she has been subjected to many insect bites usually resulting in a mass of 3 inch /75mm across of contused tissue, so I thought we would give these Mosquito Repellent Wrist Bands a try, I will report back in due course. ( an Ultra trail Runner is a runner covering any distance over the 26.2 miles known as a Marathon).
