Madog Outdoors Open Fire Bail Handle
Madog Outdoor make some excellent quality cookware and I know you will love them.
I know the go to brand at the moment is Petromax but Madog pans are Carbon Steel and not Cast Iron. That means you get the same performance as Cast Iron but with half the weight. The equivalent Cast Iron product maybe slightly cheaper but it is around 7kg where the Madog Carbon Steel model is 2.5kg!
A bail handle is a great addition to your Madog Pans as it is perfect for hanging your Dutch Oven over the fire. This model is compatible with the Dutch Oven and the 9" skillet but is not compatible with the 11" skillet.
HOW TO SEASON A CARBON STEEL PAN
Don't unwrap parts until ready to season, they are prone to rusting.
- In a well ventilated area unwrap the parts, rinse under cold water and dry off using a towel.
- Place the cookware in the oven. Put the oven on max temp (about 240 C) and heat for 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and apply a thin coat of your chosen seasoning oil or wax* to every surface, nook and cranny. With a dry cloth or paper towel remove as much of the oil as possible. Ideally, do this when the cookware is hot, but if you are concerned about burning yourself let it cool first.
- Place parts back in the oven and bake for 1 hour (it should be dry and not sticky when properly baked in).
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 at least two more times.

We sell the specially formulated wax, but you can also use sunflower oil , grapeseed oil and flaxseed oil.
