Madog Outdoors Open Fire Dutch Oven
Madog Outdoor make some excellent quality cookware and I know you will love them.
I know the go to brand at the moment is Petromax but Madog pans are Carbon Steel and not Cast Iron. That means you get the same performance as Cast Iron but with half the weight. The equivalent Cast Iron product maybe slightly cheaper but it is around 7kg where the Madog Carbon Steel model is 2.5kg!
The 3 Litre Carbon Steel Dutch Oven is designed for adventurous food lovers, with this Dutch oven you can really push the boundaries of what's on offer at your next outdoor feast, whether it's on the barbeque or over an open fire in a wild location.
Carbon steel has a similar cooking performance to cast iron but at half the weight. The natural seasoned layer can be built up over time to offer a stick-resistant surface without PTFE or PFOA. This not only makes it last much longer, have you ever wondered what the non stick coating on other pans is doing to your health when it comes off?
This Dutch oven is designed for a lifetime of use on open flame and all other fuel sources. From your induction hob at home to your backcountry escape, the Open Fire Dutch Oven will become your new trusty companion to every epic meal for generations to come.

HOW TO SEASON A CARBON STEEL PAN
Don't unwrap parts until ready to season, they are prone to rusting.
- In a well ventilated area unwrap the parts, rinse under cold water and dry off using a towel.
- Place the cookware in the oven. Put the oven on max temp (about 240 C) and heat for 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and apply a thin coat of your chosen seasoning oil or wax* to every surface, nook and cranny. With a dry cloth or paper towel remove as much of the oil as possible. Ideally, do this when the cookware is hot, but if you are concerned about burning yourself let it cool first.
- Place parts back in the oven and bake for 1 hour (it should be dry and not sticky when properly baked in).
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 at least two more times.
We sell the specially formulated wax, but you can also use sunflower oil , grapeseed oil and flaxseed oil.
