Madog Outdoors Open Fire Skillet 9"
Madog Outdoor make some excellent quality cookware and I know you will love them.
I know the go to brand at the moment is Petromax but Madog pans are Carbon Steel and not Cast Iron. That means you get the same performance as Cast Iron but with half the weight. The equivalent Cast Iron product maybe slightly cheaper but it is around 7kg where the Madog Carbon Steel model is 2.5kg!
Whether you're cooking at home, on the barbeque or over an open fire in the wild, the Open Fire Skillet will have you frying, sautéing and searing food to gourmet perfection. The Open Fire Skillet is made from carbon steel which has similar cooking performance to cast iron but at half the weight, making it the perfect balance between portability and cooking performance.
The natural seasoned layer will be built up over time to offer a stick-resistant surface without artificial PTFE or PFOA. With tender love and care, our Open Fire cookware will truly last a lifetime of use on an open flame and all other fuel sources. The detachable handle means no burns, and easier packing and storage.
Designed for adventurous food lovers, the Open Fire Skillet will become a trusted companion for many epic meals to come.

HOW TO SEASON A CARBON STEEL PAN
Don't unwrap parts until ready to season, they are prone to rusting.
- In a well ventilated area unwrap the parts, rinse under cold water and dry off using a towel.
- Place the cookware in the oven. Put the oven on max temp (about 240 C) and heat for 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and apply a thin coat of your chosen seasoning oil or wax* to every surface, nook and cranny. With a dry cloth or paper towel remove as much of the oil as possible. Ideally, do this when the cookware is hot, but if you are concerned about burning yourself let it cool first.
- Place parts back in the oven and bake for 1 hour (it should be dry and not sticky when properly baked in).
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 at least two more times.
We sell the specially formulated wax, but you can also use sunflower oil , grapeseed oil and flaxseed oil.
