Mk III TBS Boar EDC Folding Pocket Knife - Curly Birch - Scandi
TBS Boar Folding Pocket Knife.
How do you make one of the best knives on the market today better...?
It's a tough one as the original design was so good we struggled to improve it as it simply didn't need any improvement. The natural progression was to go from a high grade steel to and even higher grade steel, which is now what we've done with the Mark III.
The Mark II was made from high quality European N695 Stainless Steel, which I am a real fan of but, the steel I am an even bigger fan of is N690co Stainless Steel. Bohlers phenomenal N690co Stainless Knife Steel is a Martensitic chromium steel with cobalt, molybdenum and vanadium added. This steel is especially to make hardened cutting tools with excellent edge-holding properties. It was developed for tools and components which can be hardened to very high hardness levels and great corrosion resistance. When fine ground it produces a wickedly sharp edge and will retain that edge far longer than many other steels available on the market today.
The Boar EDC is exactly what it says on the tin, a pocket knife that you can carry, every day, in 95% of the World. It features a 70mm (2.75") blade that is now available in a full Scandi Grind or the ever popular Hollow (Sabre) Grind. Both grinds have their benefits and are more useful for different applications.
The difference in grinds allows you to purchase the knife that suits your most common needs. If you were using it for wood processing and Bushcraft then a Scandi grind is probably better suited. If you are using your EDC for food prep and finer cutting on a daily basis then a Hollow Grind is probably better. They are both extremely versatile and, either way, we don't like to pigeon hole people so you should buy whichever model you prefer.
There is now a wider choice in the handle material with the EDC. We now offer it in Super Grade Curly Birch, Super Grade Turkish Walnut, Stag Antler, Canvas Micarta or Black Micarta. All the materials have their obvious qualities and are all easy to maintain and look great. Ultimately the choice is yours but If you going to be in wetter environments then Antler or Micarta is probably a better option. Naturally with timber handles they will need a little more care and will need cleaning and oiling more regularly. The more oil and product you can into timber the more water resistant it will become.
The belt pouch that is an option on this model is our own design and is impeccably made from high grade leather and is thicker and more robust than before. It is a full cover type belt pouch and is designed to hold the knife with or without the press stud. This is a design feature to ensure that you do not lose your knife on the move and, as such, each pouch will be very close fitting. The pouch will "break in" and soften over time like any good pair of boots and we find that the attachment of a lanyard to the lanyard hole of the handle is a good addition to aid in removing the knife from the pouch.
The EDC has always been extremely popular and I am sure the Mark III will be even more popular then before. I know you can buy cheaper knives and you can probably even buy a copy of our knives now but they simply won't be the same quality. All our knives are European made by Master Cutlers and made with European Steels and materials.

I Bought one of these knives after a long wait. I was definitely not disappointed, the fit and finish is superb, the satin finish on the blade is crisp and even throughout, the blade is robust and shaving sharp with clean grind lines and a great angle on the scandi. The backspring is a proper man's backspring, it isn't opening until you want it to open and it would take quite an effort of negligence to see it closing by accident. The curly birch has been left with a very slightly textured finish which is great for a solid grip and the palm swell is perfectly proportioned and placed for my hand. I've given it a thorough workout and it took everything in its stride. All in all, this is one of, if not the, most comfortable slippy I've ever handled and it looks classy too.
Damned good job Bushcraft Store, you've got a solid winner here."
Well done guys and many thanks,
I must tell you how happy I am with my recent purchase, It's your TBS Boar folding every day carry non locking knife. I love everything about it including the birch handle, lanyard hole, width and shape of the blade but I especially like the Scandi grind and the overall quality. It was bought to replace my Joker edc which broke recently but it just doesn't even compare to that knife. Superb!!!
TBS - first of all; great service all round, thank you.
Knife arrived inside 48hrs.
Curly Birch, very nicely finished, feels very sturdy but not unduly heavy.
No thumb stud or groove in blade, but really not necessary, keeps it nice and clean, and is plenty easy enough to grip anyway - even in gloves (I tried!)
Very comfortable in the hand. Sharp from the box.
Functional and good-looking - Just what I wanted.
Minimal packaging - save the planet - well done & thanks!
