NEW Carinthia MIG 5.0 Jacket - The best got even better!

Carinthia, without a doubt, make some of the best insulation products in the World today. Used and abused by the Worlds Special Forces it is tried, tested and stamped with their seal of approval. That's good enough for me! 

The MIG Jacket (Medium Insulation Jacket) is an awesome piece of kit and I am a big fan. 

The MIG 5.0 is designed as a medium-insulation layer for cold, active conditions, combining Carinthia's G-LOFT insulation with a windproof and highly water-repellent outer. The G-LOFT insulation is designed to retain its insulating performance even when wet, which is a pretty important feature when you're spending time outside in the unpredictable Highland weather.

I got a pretty good demonstration of that on our second day in the Highlands. After turning back from our summit attempt in deteriorating weather, we turned back and headed for the car. Once back at the car, I realised I'd somehow lost my ISG 2.0. So I headed back up the trail in absolutely torrential rain, opening the front zip and pit zips to maximise ventilation. After another 2km uphill, followed by a jog back down, I was still remarkably dry and comfortable.

And the best part? The ISG 2.0 had never been on the mountain. It had been sitting on the back seat of the pickup the entire time. My kit administration may need some work, but the MIG 5.0 certainly didn't disappoint.

One of the things I've really come to appreciate about the MIG 5.0 is just how comfortable it is to spend a full day wearing it. The MIG sits in that sweet spot where you've got plenty of insulation for the colder conditions, without feeling like you're wearing a huge winter jacket. The G-LOFT insulation provides plenty of warmth while the construction allows enough freedom of movement to keep it practical when you're actually out moving around.

Whether I'm hiking, stopping for a breather beside the river or just sitting taking in the scenery, it's quickly become one of those pieces of kit I don't really have to think about, put it on and get on with the day. After the weather I experienced on this trip, l've got a pretty good idea of what it's capable of when conditions aren't quite so peaceful!

If something already works, there's no need to reinvent it. It just needs to be further developed.
