You can't go wrong with an Opinel, simple design with good steel and great value. A combination that has worked for years and will carry on working for years and years.

Opinel knife blades are made using steels with a high carbon content, which is what makes it possible to achieve the excellent hardness after heat treatment, guaranteeing the good strength of the cutting edge, resistance to wear and easy sharpening.

They use Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel which is quite simply one of the best stainless steels on the market. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chrome and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0.40% gives an excellent cutting edge.

The blade locks using the Virobloc safety ring, which in addition to locking the blade in the open position for safety of use, now enables locking of the blade in the closed position for safety during carrying.

The handle is made from durable Olive wood, and the Opinel Yatagan blade, with its curved point and round profile, is effective, precise, elegant.

The Opinel folding knife is an ideally sized backup or emergency pocket knife, perfect for all purposes - a true all rounder.

Ageless Quality !

Having purchased one of these knives some time ago, I decided to add another one to my collection of equipment so as to have more flexibility when putting together a kit for a day out or longer.

These knives are just so good to use, light, super sharp and the olive wood handle is really nice, but practical being a hardwood. I use these knives for food preparation and they are excellent for that purpose.

I would recommend the Opinel knife to anyone interested in Old School quality, on the go as a French family business from around 1890 and the locking system came about around 1955. Still made in France and not out sourced to China. Glad to support a family concern ! Cheers for now ! John.
