Petromax Wrought Iron Pans
They are high-quality wrought iron with excellent heat conductivity for a perfect steak outdoors or at home. With a Petromax Wrought Iron Pan everyone can have unique and delicious meals on any cooker or stove and even over an open fire!
A self-sealing, protective layer forms on the unique surface structure already with the first use. This patina, characteristic of wrought iron pans, further develops with each use and increases the outstanding quality of the sturdy pan. Thus, the long-lasting Petromax pan becomes an indispensable companion in the kitchen. It’s now possible to easily roast, fry and braise without the food sticking to the pan.

SP28 - Very strong, very resilient, fairly light, perfect size, and has been perfect when cooking on wood fires
Cautious about what size to pick, I went for the SP28 - which was the perfect choice - as big as a normal large frying pan.
The hint of rust on the edge was the result of me removing the wax coating that comes with it, and then leaving it a while before seasoning it. Once I seasoned it, the rust went away and has never returned.
Cooking on a wood camp fire has been a dream! The length, and perhaps the material of the handle, has meant the handle has never been scalding - very warm, yes. But when I bought it I thought I'd be using tea-towels all the time to hold it, no need so far!
The pan has been on very hot wood, coals, on the ground, back on the fire, knocked over, used on a grill, etc - absolutely no problem.
We have cooked fried eggs with a metal spatula, bacon, and vegetables. Recently we even poached eggs in it!
My friends have been looking at it with some envy ;) My partner has been thinking it might be the perfect way to cook steaks on a gas cooker ;)
After washing with just water, I pop it into a large sandwich bag and store it with the rest of my camping gear.
Very easy to recommend. Annoyed I don't have any pictures of it in use, but I've attached a picture of the wood fire we cook on.
Some things are just perfect
Petromax make things well. This pan is perfect. After years of trying I have given up on 'non-stick' frying pans. They're great at first but however careful you are, the coating breaks down after not long and the pan becomes useless. This just works and I will be able to leave it in my will. I don't just use it for camping, I use it in the kitchen too. I will never need another one so that makes it well worth the money.
Happy with purchase!
I bought this smaller size pan for cooking omlettes and pancakes and it's perfect for this purpose. I can of course also use it to cook other food stuff and likely will. Great pan, great quality. What's not to like :)
