Real Steel Japanese Combination Water Stone - 5000/2000
£22.95
If like me you are struggling to work why you can end up spending £100 on a Japanese Water Stone then don't bother looking any further. I have used many different makes now and as far as I can tell there isn't much that separates the super expensive from the more economical products.
I suppose the main difference is what they are constructed from. I know the popular misconception is that all Japanese Water Stones are hewn from a solid piece of rock but I am afraid it is not the case anymore. The most expensive ones still are but the cheaper ones are made from bonded material, usually something like Carborundum, Noviculite or Aluminium Oxide.
I know your real purist will only use a super expensive product but I am afraid I am not a fan of spending hours on end attempting to get a perfect polish from 10 different stones that cost me a fortune and then crying when it gets a scratch on the blade and doing it all over a again. Sharpen your knife until it will shave hairs off your arm and then go and use it and abuse it. Oh you can of course strop it as well!
These Real Steel combination stones products are a real winner as they give two great grits in one saving you even more money. They are 7.1"(177.5mm) x 2.4"(60mm) x 1.2"30mm). and include two interchangeable non-slip silicone bases.
