Walking Poles can be an invaluable piece of kit as they are superb for trekking with heavy loads and are great at taking some of the weight off your legs. The other bonus is that they are perfect for doubling up for a missing tent or tarp pole. I've been there in the middle of the mountains, it's dark and raining and you really need to get a shelter up only to discover that a pole has broken. I have used walking poles as spares and I a sooo glad I had brought them.
