TBS Boar Bushcraft Knife - DC4 & Firesteel Edition - Curly Birch

£149.95
The TBS range of knives are made from top quality European materials and are built to last. We have selected some the best steels for the job, the highest quality handle materials and some great leather work to bring these impeccably made knives to the market.

The Boar Bushcraft Knife - DC4 & Firesteel Edition is a great knife for the field and ticks  all the boxes as you will always have a good knife, the ability to sharpen it and a Ferrocium Rod Firesteel for firelighting.

High Grade Bohler K720 High Carbon Tool steel is one of the toughest steels out there and is used widely to make high precision tools that need to stand up to some serious punishment.

High Grade Bohler N695 Stainless steel which has a high hardness and great wear resistance and is one of Bohlers premium stainless steels. We have decided to make a variant of our knives in this steel as, after quite some testing, we have found that it performs extremely well.
It has a higher Carbon content that many other stainless steels which means it holds an edge longer and can be tempered to the same degree as Carbon Steels. This particular steel actually has a higher content than many High Carbon Tool Steels. This makes it perform with pretty much all the benefits of Carbon Steel with the added bonus of great corrosion resistance.

The blade has a full "Scandi" grind to it that is wickedly sharp straight out of the box. There are big benefits to having a proper Scandi grind to a knife and these are mainly to do with edge maintenance. A Scandi grind essentially means that the whole bevel of the knife is the edge (there is no secondary bevel) so when it comes to sharpening life is made very simple. When sharpening you can simply place the entire knife on the stone, roll it up onto the bevel and you will always achieve the correct angle for sharpening; MUCH easier than a knife with a secondary bevel!

It is handled in Super Grade Curly Birch which is a great wood for the task as it not only looks great it is VERY easy to maintain. The handles are also  wonderfully ergonomic and fit the hand perfectly for hours of hard work. The handle is very slightly longer (1cm) than most knives of this type on the market and this allows more flexibility for positioning for different uses or simply a better fit for users with larger hands.

Our leatherwork has been a phenomenal success and, whilst we were very happy with it, there is always room for tinkering and improvement so there is now a raft of new sheaths available with the Boar that I know you will love.

The sheath is a high quality leather product that allow you to carry the knife in the regular way or offers the versatility of being able to be carried a linear fashion along a belt or to be attached to the strap of a bag or even on MOLLE type webbing if need be. The leather addition to the front allows you to carry a firesteel and a DC4 stone (both included) and is also removable to allow you to carry it separately on your belt.

Our knife range is manufactured from high quality European materials by a top, well known, European manufacturer in small batches; they are NOT churned out in their thousands in a factory in the Far East. This allows us to have ultimate control over quality and materials and we are extremely happy with the results.

The Sharpening Stone
There is now a choice of sharpening stone available the DC4 whetstone which consists of a fine diamond stone (25 micron) and a very special ceramic stone, made of synthetic sapphires. The CC4 is the same except it replaces the diamond element with a super fine ceramic honing surface

The advantage of these materials, although they get worn, will still keep their flat shape this is important when you sharpen your knife. And, since these materials are the hardest we know of, they will sharpen any steel, even these extremely hard powder steels.

The Firesteel
The firesteel in this model is our own TBS ferrocium rod Firesteel which is the Army model (9.4mm thick) that gives a shower of sparks at over 3000c (5400f). It makes firelighting SO much easier and will give you thousands of strikes. It also comes with its own, very useful striker which has a useful roamer measuring scale and a bottle opener. The striker with this steel gives a MUCH better shower of white hot sparks than the back of your knife.

Andrew, Ben, Jim,

Just dropping you folks a line that I am not 100% content about the TBS Boar N695/Natural Micarta with nordic sheet, firesteel and CC4 sharpening stone. I am 300% content !!!! 👌👌👍👍😀😀.
The piece of kit is even more beautiful than I already expected it to be. A person being able to break this knife should end up in the Guinness Book of Records. I also didn't realize earlier that the nordic style sheet can also be worn as a 'standard' sheath by removing the belt strap. Many thanks for the flexibility in the changing an item in the webshop to my personal taste and preference. My Boar will certainly join me and my dog Skye on many adventures.

I seen loads of reviews for TBS Knives and I am really glad I bought one. In a word, superb! For a start it is razor sharp straight out of the box and the ergonomics of the handle are simply brilliant. I have had Casstroms knife before and this simply puts it in the shade as it is better in every department - better sized blade, MUCH better handle and the leatherworks just knocks it out of the park and puts it in another league. Oh, and did I mention - it's cheaper!! I am not quite sure how TBS makes it for less money as it is more knife in every way.

Had my boar couple of years now & has been used & abused & I can't fault it as said before sharp out of the box & stays sharp with a week's constant use the carbon steel is very strong not even a nick in the blade easy to sharpen & resist's rust much better than my 01carbon (much more expensive) knife the handle shape is so comfy (curly bearch) can carve for hours I always clean with lighter fluid coat blade in gun oil & use linseed oil on the wood this knife will outlast me my only gripe is the sheath if worn traditionally it sits way to high on belt but does sit nicely horizontally on back of belt leather coating has peeled quite bad but to be fair has had many years of abuse & there was no dangler option at the time so I guess tbs had spotted this & i'm reviewing the knife so 5* excellent product

Circa 10 days I mailed you as regards the grizzly bushcraft knife since then I purchased the boar in mircarta that is stainless! It was a gift for my nephew who is a survival instructor in the green berets, I've sharpened many knives in 35 year plus but this is amazing!! Out of the box was OK but a ceramic rod and a leather belt had me removing finger prints?? What awesome steel! A couple of questions if I may, are there any plans to make the grizzly with the stainless option? And also? Do you stock the flat white ceramic stones? Mine was borrowed several weeks since and has been returned in pieces, Thank you so much for a fantastic knife!!
