TBS Grizzly Bushcraft Survival Knife - Military Model - Firesteel Edition
The TBS Grizzly is simply a great knife and is difficult to improve on but, after 9 months of hard work, we believe we have made the ultimate, toughest, hardest wearing and durable Grizzly yet. It is a true beast and just keeps going whatever you through at it.
This model has come about as we sent models of our knives to members of the British Military Survival Training team for their honest opinion and after putting them through their paces they came back with some feedback. Essentially we were very happy to hear that there wasn't a lot to do as they were very happy with the overall design, cutting ability and comfort in use. They did say that their preference would be for them to be made in Stainless Steel, have a stable hard handle and have a synthetic sheath option.
Well, we listened, and now we have what we are calling the Military Model.......
We have chosen to make the Military Model only in Bohlers phenomenal N690 Stainless Knife Steel. N690 is a Martensitic chromium steel with cobalt, molybdenum and vanadium added especially to make hardened cutting tools with excellent edge-holding properties. It was developed for tools and components which can be hardened to very high hardness levels and great corrosion resistance. When fine ground it produces a wickedly sharp edge and will retain that edge far longer than many other steels available on the market today.
The 125mm drop point blade has a proper full, ground to zero, Scandi Grind which is not only easy to maintain it is incredibly sharp straight out of the box. It makes for exceptional cutting ability and edge retention and I am certain you will be impressed.
The 120mm handle is made from a super hard Canvas Micarta which is really durable, stable and essentially maintenance free. It is, course, shaped to be wonderfully ergonomic just like all TBS Knives. If you want a knife that can be "Rode all day and put away wet" then the Military Model is for you!!
The Grizzly comes with our great Multi Carry sheath which allows you to carry it in a normal vertical fashion on a belt or in a linear "scout" carry fashion which is ever popular now. TBS Leather sheaths have been incredibly popular and for good reason. We only use a quality full grain leather (which not everyone does) and this increases the strength and durability of our products. It does make them slightly more expensive but the trade off in longevity far out weighs any false economy of cost saving.

Took delivery of the knife. This thing is the bomb! I'm off to America to turn their Giant Redwoods into big toothpicks. I'm sure it's more than equal to the task! Impressed with the micarta slabs , I have small hands & it fits better than I thought by some stretch. And the heft of the thing! You lot have done your work incredibly well. I was about to buy an Esee 5 and I love their stuff, pleased this beast came on the scene & stopped me. All the best. Andy
Awesome Knife, fantastic job guys! Just received this knife and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. The knife itself is fantastic, love the Grizzly design, out of the box it is ridiculously sharp, the edge retention is great, it has a good weight and feel, it's a beast of a knife. The micarta scales are very comfortable and just have a nice feel aswell as looking the part. The sheath I opted for was the Firesteel/DC4 combo and it is fantastic, lovely leatherwork, brilliant design and build. It is very comfortable on the hip whichever way you prefer and just looks and feels great. The matching Firesteel is superb, same lovely micarta design, comes with a dedicated striker and produces a good shower of hot sparks, definitely try to avoid from using the back of the blade unless you have to. The DC4 is just an all round great stone for in the field and it sharpens the blade superbly, and it is especially easy considering the scandi grind. Overall a fantastic bit of kit, I'm extremely happy with it. I had looked into this knife for quite some time before purchasing and I have to say I'm so glad I did. If you're thinking about buying this knife and have the money to do so, just take the plunge, you won't regret it. Amazing service from the folks at TBS!
Two of my favorite knives are my ESEE 5 and Fallkniven A1. On reading the specifications of TBS Grizzly Bushcraft Survival Knife, I had to own it. My first impressions were favorable indeed. Well constructed, sharp, balance and top end weight ideal for chopping. Although I purchased the kydex sheath separately I made a custom sheath using an ESEE 5 sheath as my starting build. I have since put this knife through it paces in the forests surrounding the Monadhliath Mountains in Scotland. It cuts, chops, skins and fillets without labour. I love it. I cannot fault this knife and would happily take it in to any situation where a reliable knife is required.
I posted a review on the TBS Grizzly some time ago but feel I have to update my review. Since putting the Grizzly through it's paces I have added the Fallkniven A1 Pro to my collection, another top class knife. More and more though, it's the Grizzly I gravitate towards. I genuinely can not fault this knife. Hunting, camping or in a survival situation this knife will always perform. Many top of the range knives will accomplish several tasks but always seem to fall short on others, not the Grizzly. This knife has done everything that I have ever asked of it and more. From the steel to it's contruction, size and shape, I have yet to find better. Everlasting love I think.
