TBS Lynx Bushcraft Neck Knife - DC3 & Firesteel Edition - Natural Micarta
The Lynx has come about as we have had so many great compliments about the TBS Boar EDC folding pocket knife. Quite a common comment was "The EDC is a brilliant folding knife, have you ever thought of making a fixed blade the same sort of size?" Well I had a sit down and, low and behold, the Lynx was born.
There is an saying that makes complete sense when it comes to size - "You can catch a big fish with a small hook but you can't catch a small fish with a big hook".
It is basically in between the size of the Boar EDC and the Boar Fixed Blade and is 7.2" (180mm) overall with a 3.5" (85mm) blade that is Scandi Ground and RAZOR sharp.
High Grade Bohler N695 Stainless steel which has a high hardness and great wear resistance and is one of Bohlers premium stainless steels. We have decided to make a variant of our knives in this steel as, after quite some testing, we have found that it performs extremely well.
It has a higher Carbon content that many other stainless steels which means it holds an edge longer and can be tempered to the same degree as Carbon Steels. This particular steel actually has a higher content than many High Carbon Tool Steels. This makes it perform with pretty much all the benefits of Carbon Steel with the added bonus of great corrosion resistance.
The handles are, of course, wonderfully ergonomic like all of our knife models, and have a palm swell that really helps you maintain a firm grip. We have chosen to handle the Lynx in a choice of the most user friendly materials out there - Curly Birch, Turkish Walnut, Olive Wood and Micarta. All have their merits and it was very difficult to choose between them so we thought why not have them all?
The sheath is a high quality leather product that allow you to carry the knife in the regular way or offers the versatility of being able to be carried a linear fashion along a belt or to be attached to the strap of a bag or even on MOLLE type webbing if need be. The leather addition to the front allows you to carry a firesteel and a DC4 stone (both included) and is also removable to allow you to carry it separately on your belt.
The Sharpening Stone
The newly-developed DC3 whetstone consists of a fine diamond stone (25 micron) and a very special ceramic stone, made of synthetic sapphires. The advantage of these materials, although they get worn, will still keep their flat shape this is important when you sharpen your knife. And, since these materials are the hardest we know of, they will sharpen any steel, even these extremely hard powder steels.
The firesteel in this model is our own TBS ferrocium rod Army sized Firesteel (9.4mm thick) that gives a shower of sparks at over 3000c (5400f). It makes firelighting SO much easier and will give you thousands of strikes. It also comes with its own, very useful striker which has a useful roamer measuring scale and a bottle opener. The striker with this steel gives a MUCH better shower of white hot sparks than the back of your knife.
The Lynx, of course, follows the same theme as other TBS Knives by being made from High Grade Steels, top quality handle materials, great leatherwork and being all European in the materials and construction. No dubious Far Eastern materials just good, tried and tested quality materials and manufacture.
TBS Knives have been very well received and are now being used daily in many Countries around the World. I have now seen independent reviews in languages I don't even recognise and there seems to be a very common theme - people love 'em!

I have today received my new Lynx neck Knife, complete with matching TBS firesteel, and Fallkniven DC3 Sharpening stone. The knife has the Micarta handle and N695 steel,
14 months ago I purchased a Micarta handled Girzzly, Micarta handle. I was wanting a smaller blade and so impressed with the Grizzly I looked to TBS for a blade to compliment it.
After many emails to TBS (A very helpful person Andy has been the aid) I opted for this knife and accessories.
I chose the N695 steel over the K720 purely for the corrosion properties. I will be interested over time how the two steels compare.
The blade is much smaller than the Grizzly, but still very easy to hold, comfortable and very practical. Blade thickness is impressive for such a small knife, and as the Grizzly, it arrived superbly sharp.
The TBS multi carry sheath came with the steel+stone pouch attached which is incredibly neat. The whole thing fits well in my survival trousers and is not overly heavy; it site well horizontally also and is not as imposing as the grizzly.
Andy kinfly added a skull lanyard to the kit which makes it even easier to remove from the sheath.
The including stricker does function well and produces a significant spark shower.
Another fantastic knife that will last a lifetime; coupled with great customer service. And to finally add the delivery time was 2 days. Impressive.
