The TBS Timberwolf Knife & Raptor Combo - Orange G10 - Kydex Sheath

The NEW TBS Timberwolf Knife is, what we believe, to be the ultimate all rounder. It especially lends itself well to this type of application and combined with the Raptor Guthook it makes for a brilliant all round combo.

The Lynx Compact has been a very popular tool so we decided that this new Timberwolf should be in the same vein. Don't get me wrong there is always a place for a great, traditional Bushcraft knife with Carbon steel and wooden handles but this version of the Timberwolf is just a little different. 

It has been designed to be as maintenance free as possible so, in essence, as long as you sharpen it occasionally it will just last for ever with very little after care. It is made from Sandvik's 14C28N which will come out at 3.8mm at the spine. This means it will be a great fine slicer but still be tough enough to deal with 99% of camp tasks and game prep.

14C28N is known for its excellent edge retention, hardness, and corrosion resistance which is also relatively easy to sharpen and maintain. It is a great steel to use for everyday use knives and is made to very exacting standards.

It will come with a Sabre grind with a fine secondary bevel making it a proper all rounder. We have decided to make it with this grind simply because it lends itself to just about any task you will put it to. It is a fine slicer but still thick enough at the spine to take punishment should you choose to batten with it.

I have used this knife for all sorts of daily tasks including processing wood, cutting cord, processing game and, ultimately, then brought it home and used it as a kitchen knife. It is just a great cutter. 

The handles for the Raptor Series will all be G10. Why? Well to me it is such a durable and water resistant material it lends itself to this project extremely well. It is a great material, especially for Game Prep as it can simply be washed washing up liquid, dried and disinfected. The handle also features a lanyard hole which I am always a fan of.

The sheath on this model should be Kydex as it just lends itself to this type of project of being as maintenance free as possible. It is easy to clean and disinfect and the only leather feature is the belt loop. This setup allows us to attach the Raptor Gut Hook in it's only Nylon pouch on the front but also allows you to fully strip it by only removing two screws.

The TBS Raptor came about from the need to process meat as efficiently as possible. Of course there are many different Guthooks on the market but I wanted to create a product that would pair up with TBS Knives that would combine the brilliant ergonomics of these knives with the easy cutting ability.

The Raptor is a very specialist tool and many hunters will simply fob off such tools as surplus to requirements, that attitude prevails right up to the point they actually use a specialist belly opener.

Many a time I have heard "I don't need one of those just put your finger over the point of your blade and cut from the inside". Well if your knife ever stops suddenly as you have hit the rib cage and stuck the point through your finger you may change your tune!

To use you simply make a small incision on the Sternum and insert the Raptors cutting edge and pull down. It is literally like undoing a zip on a jacket and there is very little, if any, chance of piercing any internal organs as the sharpened blade is only ever coming into contact with the skin. If you have ever pierced the stomach or an internal organ of an animal and had to right the carcass off because of contamination then you need a Raptor.

It is made from a high quality Stainless Steel that holds an edge extremely well and is razor sharp it perfect for hunting purposes as there is no corrosion and the steel can be disinfected very easily. This steel is what we refer to as a "MOVA" steel which means it has Molybdenum and Vanadium added.

Molybdenum and Vanadium is added to steel alloys and superalloys to drastically improve strength and resistance to corrosion and, as a result, makes it a superb steel to use for hunting tools.
